In the 2026 Election,
JALSA Encourages You to Vote:
Yes on 4 - Same Day Voting
No on 5 - Revenue Cap
Yes on 7 - Starter Homes
Yes on 9 - Gun Safety
This November, Massachusetts voters will be asked to vote on nine ballot questions, tying an all-time record for number of ballot questions. It's a lot to keep track of!
JALSA has taken official positions on four questions (no, not in honor of the Passover seder's four questions; that's really just a coincidence!). As you ponder how you will vote, we encourage you to strongly consider the following positions:
Vote Yes on 4 - Same Day Registration
What Question 4 is about: Q4 would permit eligible individuals to register to vote or update their voter registration address on Election Day, known concisely as "Same-Day Voter Registration."
Why JALSA supports Question 4: Yes on 4 enjoys broad support because same-day voter registration will strengthen democracy and improve voting access. The measure ensures that everyone eligible will be able to register and cast a ballot. The Jewish people thrive best in robust democracies, and this measure strengthens democracy. JALSA supports Yes on 4.
Vote No on 5 - Revenue Cap
What Question 5 is about: Q5, a very confusing question by design, would change the limit on the state's ability to collect revenue in a given year. It is supported by wealthy corporate groups whose members would personally benefit from big tax rebates if this question were to pass, even as it would curtail state government's ability to meet our families' and communities' needs.
Why JALSA opposes Question 5: Because Q5 would make it harder for state government to meet the needs of our Commonwealth's people, especially during economic downturns when state government support systems are most vital, JALSA urges you to vote No on 5!
Vote Yes on 7 - Starter Homes
What Question 7 is about: Q7 would help combat Massachusetts' ongoing severe housing crisis by enabling the building of new "starter" single-family homes on lots of 5,000 square feet wherever there is public sewer and water service. This measure would generate thousands of additional housing units per year, combating the housing crisis and improving accessibility and affordability. Q7's constructive, impactful approach has earned broad support for the ballot question.
Why JALSA supports Question 7: Because Q7 would offer a meaningful approach to combating the state's housing crisis and improving housing accessibility and affordability, JALSA supports Yes on 7.
Vote Yes on 9 - Gun Safety
What Question 9 is about: In 2024, Massachusetts passed its strongest gun safety law in a decade, cracking down on ghost guns and modernizing safety regulations. The gun lobby is trying to dismantle this important measure for progress on gun safety. A yes vote would maintain the 2024 law for gun safety. A no vote would do away with this landmark gun safety law.
Why JALSA supports Question 9: Because the 2024 law has proven to be an important step in strengthening public safety and combating gun violence, JALSA urges you to keep the law in place by voting Yes on 9.
