Excerpt from Jewish leaders gather at State House amid bid to erase antisemitism

Photographs of Jewish communities around the globe decorated Gov. Maura Healey's office Tuesday, as dozens of Massachusetts Jewish leaders crammed into the humid lobby to mark Jewish American Heritage Month and highlight efforts underway to combat antisemitism.

"Look, we have so much to celebrate when it comes to the Jewish community. The Jewish community runs through every facet of life in Massachusetts," Healey said. She added, "The Jewish community to me has always been a community that has been about faith, and hope, and light, and transcendence, and social justice, and social good."

The Tuesday afternoon event was not listed on Healey's official schedule. Attendees included Senate President Karen Spilka, Treasurer Deb Goldberg, Public Health Commissioner Robbie Goldstein, MassHealth Undersecretary Mike Levine, Economic Development Secretary Eric Paley and Consul General of Israel to New England Benjamin Sharoni. Leaders of organizations such as the Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater Boston, the Anti-Defamation League and Jewish Alliance for Law and Social Action were also on hand.
