Economic Equality

JALSA serves on the steering committee of the Raise Up Massachusetts coalition, as an advocate of raising the minimum wage through the Fight for $15 campaign, providing workers Paid Family and Medical Leave and directing investments to quality public education and transportation through the Fair Share Amendment. 


Earned Sick Time
JALSA brought together the 100 plus member coalition that helped provide job protection for Massachusetts workers by passing Earned Sick Time in 2014.

Pending Legislation

Fight for $15 
An Act to improve the Commonwealth’s economy with a strong minimum wage and a strong tipped minimum wage

H.2365 (filed by Rep. Dan Donahue) 

S.1004 (filed by the late Sen. Ken Donnelly)

Bills would raise the state’s minimum wage by $1 each year over four years until it is $15 an hour in 2021. The minimum wage would then be adjusted each year to rise along with increases in the cost of living.

Paid Family and Medical Leave 

An Act establishing a paid family and medical leave insurance program

H.2172 (filed by Rep. Ken Gordon) 

S.1048 (filed by Sen. Karen Spilka)

Bills would make employees eligible for job-protected paid leave to recover from a serious illness or injury, to care for a seriously ill or injured family member, or to care for a new child. The bills prohibit employer retaliation against workers who take time off under these conditions.
