In her first statement as JALSA’s Executive Director, Cindy Rowe, expressed her deep condemnation of the Trump Administration’s decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program:
“There are now 800,000 DACA recipients, 7,900 living here in Massachusetts, whose lives will be jeopardized because of President Trump’s heartless Executive Order. These young people contribute to our communities in countless ways. As our neighbors and friends, students and colleagues, Dreamers should be valued and given a path to citizenship.
“The repeal of DACA is a violation of our Jewish values, which teach us to open our tents on all sides, and welcome people with dignity and respect. We call on Congress to act swiftly to protect the Dreamers. Our country made a promise to these young people, and we should keep our word to provide them with the opportunities they need to build their futures in America.”
