Immigrants’ Day at the Statehouse a Great Success

Hundreds of immigrants and supporters visited the State House to encourage passage of the Safe Communities Act.

Now more than ever, our voices and immigrant stories must be heard at the state level. This year our JALSA advocacy will include a focus on the Safe Communities Act, a bill to protect the civil liberties and safety of all Massachusetts residents.  Massachusetts law enforcement officials should concentrate on apprehending people with criminal records.  They should not spend time acting as agents of ICE to apprehend people without proper documentation, but no criminal records.  Many undocumented people have lived in the United States for decades.  Many have children who are American citizens.  The Safe Communities Act would ensure that our local police will not be involved in unconstitutional violations of due process.
